When a dream comes true

Last weekend a great dream of mine has come true.

Even as a little girl I was fascinated by birds, I loved them and had almost daily contact with them. (budgies, parrot)

For a few years now I have been supporting a rescue centre for birds of prey. Last saturday I was allowed to release this beautiful fella - back into the wild. 🦅

It is a juvenile red kite. He was brought to the centre about a month ago. He fell out of the nest and was unable to fly. During the last weeks he was cared for and after successful flight training he was ready for release today.

I thought it was a girl and chose the name Kwinana.

But it turned out that he is a boy. That is why he has now been given the name Kwinano.

It was an indescribable feeling to hold this beautiful boy in my hands, to feel his heartbeat and to look into his eyes.

Then to open my hands and see him fly away with powerful wing beats.... There are no words for it.

Fly free and fly high! 🦅🍀

A huge thank you to the rescue centre for their valuable work. And a big thank you to my best buddy for accompanying me. It was great that we were able to experience this together.
